Epic views from some of F1’s best seats (Part 2)
If you’re heading to a Formula One race and want more than just a fleeting glimpse of the cars, choosing the right spot makes all the difference.
Some places give you massive views where you can track the action for big chunks of the lap where you can enjoy far-reaching views across much of the track from a single vantage point. Here are some of my absolute favourites, including Silverstone, the Hungaroring and Spa-Francorchamps. These are some of the best vantage points that seriously deliver.

Silverstone – British Grand PrixSilverstone’s Ignition Club grandstand is a favorite for a reason. The grandstand covers six corners: Maggotts, Becketts, Farm Curve, Village, The Loop, and Aintree. Maggots and Becketts are some of the most iconic corners in F1, and from the Ignition Club, you can see them all link together.
You'll see the cars fly by you close up as they pass by the grandstand, as they pass through the rapid succession of high-speed corners that makes up the Maggots, Becketts and then reappear later in the lap, as they pass through Farm Curve, Village, The Loop, and Aintree. It's a brilliant place to take in just how fast and precise these cars are as they flow through some of the most legendary corners in Formula One. I'm always amazed by the grip that they have, giving drivers the confidence to put their foot to the floor and take these flat out. It’s one of those places where you truly appreciate the skill, speed, and bravery that defines Formula 1. Hungaroring – Hungarian Grand PrixHungaroring’s natural bowl shape means many grandstands have elevated, sweeping views that span multiple corners in the final sector of the lap. The Fan, Apex, and Grand Prix grandstands overlook the tricky final section of the lap from Turn 11 to Turn 14.
Don't underestimate the sweeping corners — in 2015, I witnessed Sergio Perez walk away unhurt after a massive flip in FP1. The Mexican driver thankfully walked away after he was pitched into the barrier and flipped upside-down, with his car coming to a halt the wrong way up some way down the track from the initial collision with the barrier. You also see the cars scuttle away down the start/finish straight. The drivers need to ensure a great exit with maximum traction so that they can hit their top speed on the start/finish straight. You’ll also be able to look down the straight and might catch any passes made along it. Basically, these grandstands give you views over a huge part of the circuit — not to mention the rear grid slots at the start of the race and the podium celebrations at the end. It’s one of the best places to take in the bigger picture of a Grand Prix, with views that stretch from late-lap drama to the start grid and finish-line celebrations. Spa-Francorchamps – Belgian Grand PrixFinally, one of the best spots anywhere in Formula 1: Gold 2 Grandstands at Spa.
Gold 2 is located just after La Source and gives you breathtaking views of Eau Rouge and Raidillon — one of the most thrilling sections in the sport. Watching the cars flick left, then right, then hammer up the hill at full speed is absolutely unforgettable. Honestly, I’ll never forget the moment I stepped out into the grandstand and saw the sweeping views from La Source to Raidillon laid out in front of me. As a lifetime Formula One fan, it truly took my breath away. Plus, you get a good look at the pit lane exit too, which adds even more to the strategic element of the race. It’s one of those rare spots where the magic of Formula 1 really hits you — pure adrenaline, iconic corners, and a view that stays with you. |
