In previous years all three day ticket holders have been invited to a complimentary pit lane visit on Thursday afternoon. There is no sign that this will stop at future races but check the official Italian Grand prix website for the latest information and timings.
Also known as the temple of speed, it’s no surprise that Monza is one of the fastest race circuit in the world. At first glance choosing a grandstand at Monza can seem a little confusing but with a little insider knowledge we’ll have you amongst the Tifosi in no time at all. So let’s take a look at the grandstands at the Italian Grand Prix.
If you’re looking for views into the pit lane and over the grid then the grandstands along the main straight are for you. The grandstands in Monza are split into left (Sinistra), right (Destra) and central (Centrale) with the Centrale section priced at a premium and overlooking the pole position grid spot.
The grandstand to the left of Centrale is positioned just ahead of pole position and Grandstands to the right of Centrale extend down the pit lane with the final sections of seating ideally positioned for views of the podium celebrations.
Heading down toward Turn 1 the appropriately named Alta Velocita (or high speed) Grandstand is positioned on the inside of the circuit and has views of the cars as they hurtle towards the breaking zone at the first chicane.
Just beyond the Turn 1 breaking zone the two Outer First Variant grandstands (positioned on the outside of the circuit) provide impressive views as the cars flick right and then left through this critical section of the circuit.
Positions and even Grand Prix have be won and lost here at the low speed chicanes of Turns 1& 2 as drivers lock wheels and run wide as they push the limits in an attempt to find that precious extra tenth of a second.
For some real kerb riding action you can’t do much better than the Ascari chicane at Monza. Finding the perfect line is important and in recent years the drivers have been expected to take Turns 9 and 10 flat out with the cars drifting out onto the exit kerb before heading down the long back straight.
You’ll be spoilt for choice at Ascari with grandstands positioned on the inside of the track along the full length of the chicane from entry point to exit.
Arriving at high speed down the back straight the drivers brake and change down gear for the constant right hander of Parabolica. You can expect to see some deep braking in to the first section of the turn now the run-off area has been changed from gravel to tarmac.
Grandstands line the approach to the Parabolica breaking zone on the outside of the circuit with a prime position covered grandstand located at the entry point into the corner.
