In previous years all three-day and Sunday ticket holders have been invited to a free pit lane visit on Thursday afternoon (4pm and 7pm). There is no sign that this will stop at future races but check the official Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya website for the latest information and timings.
The grandstands I would recommend in Spanish are:
Main Grandstand
The Main Grandstand in Barcelona (just like main grandstands at other circuits) is positioned along the start / finish straight looking towards the pit lane and pit building. If you want a vantage point that allows you to see into the team garages and into the pit lane then the Main Grandstand is for you. Seating to the right of the grandstand is positioned alongside the grid so you’ll have views of the pre race build-up as the cars and drivers go through their final preparations before lights out.
Grandstands E, F & J
Grandstands E, F & J are located on the outside of the circuit on main straight the between the exit of the pit lane and the first corner.
Grandstand J is posited just beyond the pit lane exit with views of the main straight directly in front and limited views across the infield where the cars come back into view around Turn 7. You’ll see the cars at high speed as they hurtle down the Main Straight towards the first corner braking zone.
Grandstands E & F are located at the end of the Main Straight in the braking zone for the right hander at Turn 1 where most overtaking takes place. Overtaking is possible here with DRS on the approach to turn one, especially if the car ahead is suffering with high tyre degradation. Grandstand F is positioned at Turn 1 with Grandstand E positioned just to the right of it. Views from the mid to higher tiers of the grandstand can extend down the full length of the Main Straight in one direction and up to Turn 3 in the other direction.
Grandstand A
Grandstand A sits on the outside of the circuit at Turn 2 with elevated views extending down the Main Straight towards the pit lane exit in one direction and up towards Turn 3 in the other direction which the drivers try to take as flat out as possible. The best views are over the high-speed right and then left corners of Turns 1 & 2 where most over taking takes place.
Grandstand L
Grandstand L is positioned on the infield part of the circuit at Turn 5. This is one of the most elevated parts of the circuit so the views are excellent and extend over sectors 1 & 2. Cars come into view as the approach the braking zone at the end of the Main Straight before taking the high-speed right and then left corners of Turns 1 & 2 where most over taking takes place.
After Turn 2 the cars then disappear out of sight behind the grandstand before reappearing again on the approach to the hairpin at Turn 5. Views extend down towards Turn 6 before the cars disappear out of sight for the final time.
Grandstand M
Grandstand M overlooks the hairpin at Turn Five. Cars come into view after the long right hander of turn 4 heading downhill into Turn 5. It’s a tricky down hill corner for the drivers as they don’t see the apex until late.
Grandstand N
After negotiating Turns 7 & 8 the cars come into view on the up the hill approach to the very high-speed turn 9 directly in front of the grandstand. Cars are insight for a relatively short period of time as they pass in front of the grandstand before disappear out of sight on the downhill approach towards the hairpin at turn 10.
Grandstands B, G & C
Grandstands B, G & C are positioned around the outside of the circuit at the complex in the final sector of the lap. Cars come into sight at the Turn 10 hairpin which is very tricky under braking, and remain insight until Turn 14. It’s difficult for the drivers to maintain a good flow around the quick succession of corners between Turns 11, 12 & 13.
Grandstands H & I
Grandstands H & I are located around Turn 16 at the pit lane entry point. Turn 16 is the final corner of the lap and the drivers try to stay as flat-out as possible. This is a good grandstand for keeping track of who’s pitted as you’ll see the cars peel of into the pit lane before the end of the lap. Cars come into sight on the short downhill section of circuit after Turn 15 and quickly disappear out of sight down the Main Straight.
