Race Weekend Travel At The Spanish Grand Prix™
In this guide you’ll learn about the different options to help you get around during the Spanish Grand Prix™.
Driving
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is easily accessible from the highway and car parks are located close to most of the grandstands. Parking permits can usually be purchased with your grandstand ticket.
Chauffeur driven vehicles and taxis can also be pre booked for transfers to and from the circuit. Expect to be charged a minimum daily rate rather than an hourly rate as road closures often result in drivers having to stay at the circuit.
Trains
The suburban R2 train bound for MaÇanet-Massanes departs from Barcelona upto three times an hour on weekdays and twice an hour on weekends. Trains depart from Barcelona Sants, Passeig de Gràcia, or El Clot Arago rail stations in central Barcelona. Booking a hotel close to one of these stations is advisable to avoid any additional traveling.
You’ll need to get off the train at Montmelo station which is the closest station to the circuit. The walk from the station to the circuit can take around forty-five minutes (longer if you're seated in the North or East sections of the circuit) and some parts of the walk are uphill. A shuttle service from Montmelo station to the circuit is usually available for a nominal fee.
Montmelo station is only small and queues for trains heading back into Barcelona should be expected. Many fans will stop for a beer or two at one of the small bars in Montmelo to avoid the worst of the queues.
Bus
During the Grand Prix weekend a bus service operates between central Barcelona and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Departures are every 20, 10 or 5 minutes depending on the day and time. Tickets cost approximately 20€ per day. Bus transfers also operate from some towns on the Costa Brava.
