There’s no public transport that goes directly to COTA. The main options for race weekend are the official shuttle bus, driving with a pre-booked parking pass, or rideshare. Of those, the shuttle bus is the most popular for fans staying downtown.
Official shuttle bus
The official shuttle bus is the easiest way to reach the circuit for most fans. The Downtown Shuttle runs from Waterloo Park, which is within walking distance of most downtown Austin hotels, and goes directly to COTA’s Grand Plaza entrance.
The journey takes around 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic and time of day. Police often block off intersections to give the shuttle buses priority along the route, which keeps the service moving.
Shuttle passes are sold on the COTA website, usually a few months before the event. Buying in advance is sensible.
Driving
If you’re planning to drive, you’ll need a parking pass booked in advance through the COTA website. Without one, you’ll be turned away at the circuit. Street parking near COTA is very limited, and local authorities enforce no-parking zones for miles around the circuit on race weekend.
Parking passes sell out, so book early.
Rideshare and taxi
Uber, Lyft, and taxis can all get you close to the circuit, but during race times road closures mean cars can’t drop you directly at the entrance. Drivers drop passengers at a designated off-site lot, with a 15 to 20 minute walk to the gates.
After the race, surge pricing on rideshares often makes prices high. If you choose this option, scheduling a pickup in advance or arranging a driver ahead of time helps.
After the race
The Circuit of The Americas hosts evening concerts as part of race weekend, so some fans stay behind for the music after the on-track action. This spreads out the crowd leaving the circuit and shortens the queues at the shuttle bus pickup.
If you’re sitting in a grandstand near the final sector, including the Turn 12, Turn 15, or Turn 19 grandstands, you’ll have quick access to the Grand Plaza and the shuttle bus pickup. From these grandstands, fans can often get out almost immediately after the race with minimal queuing. From grandstands on the other side of the circuit, the walk to the Grand Plaza takes longer.

I keep going back to these travel companies because they’re reliable, easy to use, and usually have the best value. They’re where I start every time I plan a trip.
Tickets
Motorsport Tickets and Grand Prix Tickets are the two agencies I’ve trusted for years. They’ve always been reliable, easy to deal with, and quick to help if something comes up.
Hotels
ZenHotels is one of my go-to sites for hotel bookings. It pulls prices from loads of smaller sites you might not know about, so it’s great for finding deals. I also check Expedia and Booking.com when I want more options.
Excursions
Viator is packed with walking tours, attraction tickets, and local experiences. It’s especially handy if you’re heading to a new Grand Prix city. It’s a great place to find extras to add to your trip.
