Getting there by air
Milan is the main gateway to Monza. The city has two main airports: Milan Linate (LIN) and Milan Malpensa (MXP). Bergamo Airport (BGY) is also a useful option, particularly for fans flying with low-cost airlines from within Europe.
Direct flights to Milan Malpensa are common from most European hubs and from a number of regional airports. There are also direct services from a number of cities in North America, the Middle East, and Asia. Linate is mostly served by short-haul European routes.
Bergamo Airport is around 55 km from both Monza and central Milan and is well connected to a wide range of European cities, often with low-cost carriers.
If your city doesn’t have a direct flight to Milan, the most common connections are through other major European hubs.
Getting there by train
Milan Central (Milano Centrale) is one of the major rail hubs in Europe, with direct services from Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, and other European cities, alongside the Italian high-speed network connecting Rome, Florence, Venice, and Naples.
Getting there by coach
Long-distance coach services run from a number of European cities into Milan. Coach travel is slower than the train but often the cheapest option.
Getting there by road
Milan is well connected by road, with major motorways linking it to other Italian and European cities. Worth knowing that central Milan has a restricted traffic zone (Area C), so most fans driving into the city park outside the centre and use public transport from there.
From the airports to central Milan
Malpensa Express train. Direct rail service from Malpensa to Milan Central or Milan Cadorna. The most reliable option from Malpensa.
Linate. Linate is the closest of the two Milan airports to the city, with metro and bus connections.
Bergamo. Direct shuttle buses run between Bergamo Airport and Milan Central, taking around an hour.
Taxi or pre-booked transfer. Available from all three airports. Worth considering if you’d rather skip the queue or want a fixed price agreed in advance.
Visa and entry requirements
Many visitors don’t need a visa to enter Italy, but requirements depend on your nationality and personal circumstances.
For visa-exempt nationals, ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement when visiting Italy and other European destinations.
Check the official guidance before booking.

I keep going back to these travel companies because they’re reliable, easy to use, and usually have the best value. They’re where I start every time I plan a trip.
Tickets
Motorsport Tickets and Grand Prix Tickets are the two agencies I’ve trusted for years. They’ve always been reliable, easy to deal with, and quick to help if something comes up.
Hotels
ZenHotels is one of my go-to sites for hotel bookings. It pulls prices from loads of smaller sites you might not know about, so it’s great for finding deals. I also check Expedia and Booking.com when I want more options.
Excursions
Viator is packed with walking tours, attraction tickets, and local experiences. It’s especially handy if you’re heading to a new Grand Prix city. It’s a great place to find extras to add to your trip.
FAQ's
Milan Linate (LIN) and Milan Malpensa (MXP) are the two main airports. Bergamo Airport (BGY) is also a good option, particularly for low-cost European flights.
Yes. Milan Central is one of Europe's major rail hubs, with direct services from Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, and across the Italian high-speed network.
Most fans don't. Central Milan has a restricted traffic zone, so it's easier to park outside the centre and use public transport.
Money-saving tip
Compare all three airports
Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, and Bergamo all serve the same trip. Bergamo in particular is well served by low-cost airlines, so it’s worth comparing fares across all three before booking.
