The Mexican Grand Prix takes place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, in Mexico City. The circuit is around 6.5 km southeast of the historic centre and around 4 km from Mexico City International Airport, inside the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City complex.
The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is one of the most distinctive layouts on the Formula 1 calendar. The lap includes a 1.2 km full-throttle blast from the start line to Turn 1, one of the heaviest braking zones of the year, and a section that runs straight through the Foro Sol baseball stadium (recently renamed Estadio GNP Seguros), where grandstands tower over the track and the podium ceremony takes place.
The circuit sits at over 2,200 metres above sea level, which makes Mexico City the highest race on the calendar. The thin air affects almost everything: cars run maximum downforce but still hit some of the highest top speeds of the season, cooling power units and brakes is harder, and drivers themselves work harder for less oxygen.
The grandstands are a mix of covered and uncovered. The race takes place in late October or early November, when daytime temperatures in Mexico City are usually warm but the sun is intense at altitude.
The Formula 1 sessions run alongside support races. Recent line-ups have included the GTM Super Copa, the Formula 4 NACAM Championship, and Masters Historic. The full schedule is published on F1.com about four weeks before the race.
How many days should you spend at the Mexican Grand Prix?
Plan for three full days, Friday to Sunday, to see every Formula 1 session and the support races.
Mexican Grand Prix weekend schedule at a glance
A typical Formula 1 weekend runs Friday to Sunday. Friday is practice. Saturday is final practice and qualifying. Sunday is the Grand Prix.
Each year, a handful of Grand Prix follow a sprint format. On a sprint weekend, Friday includes practice and sprint qualifying. Saturday includes the sprint race and Grand Prix qualifying. Sunday is still the Grand Prix. Sprint weekends rotate around the calendar each season, so check the current year’s schedule on F1.com.
