The Azerbaijan Grand Prix takes place at the Baku City Circuit, a street circuit in the heart of Baku. The track winds through the boulevards of the modern city, around the walls of the UNESCO-listed Old City, and along the Caspian seafront.
The Baku City Circuit is one of the more distinctive layouts on the Formula 1 calendar. The lap mixes a 2 km straight, where cars approach speeds of over 350 km/h, with a tight, twisty section through the Old City. The narrowest point on the circuit, near Turn 8, is around 7.6 metres wide, which leaves no room for error. Turn 1, at the end of the long straight, is one of the heaviest braking zones on the calendar.
The grandstands are uncovered, except for the upper section of the Absheron Main Grandstand. The race takes place in mid to late September, when Baku can still be warm.
The Formula 1 sessions run alongside the FIA Formula 2 support series. The full schedule is published on F1.com about four weeks before the race.
How many days should you spend at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix?
Plan for three full days, Friday to Sunday, to see every Formula 1 session and the support races.
Note: in 2026, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix moves a day earlier, running Thursday to Saturday, to accommodate a national holiday on the Sunday. Always check the current year’s schedule on F1.com before booking.
Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend schedule at a glance
A typical Formula 1 weekend runs Friday to Sunday. Friday is practice. Saturday is final practice and qualifying. Sunday is the Grand Prix.
Each year, a handful of Grand Prix follow a sprint format. On a sprint weekend, Friday includes practice and sprint qualifying. Saturday includes the sprint race and Grand Prix qualifying. Sunday is still the Grand Prix. Sprint weekends rotate around the calendar each season, so check the current year’s schedule on F1.com.
