Which Italian Grand Prix grandstand is the grandest?

In this guide we’ll help you choose the perfect grandstand for your Italian Grand Prix experience.

Monza is all about speed. With long straights, heavy braking zones, and fast corners, it’s a circuit where F1 cars hit some of the highest speeds of the season. But if you want the best on-track action, where you sit makes a big difference.

There are four key grandstand areas at Monza: Start/Finish Straight, First Chicane, Ascari, and Parabolica.

Start/Finish Straight – Best for pre-race build-up, pit stops, and podium celebrations

Sitting on the main straight means you’ll see the pre-race build-up, grid preparations, and the chequered flag at the end. It’s also a great place to catch the podium celebrations and get a close-up view of the pit stops as teams execute their race strategies.
Grandstand options:
  • Centrale – The premium option, located on pole position and opposite the team garages.
  • Left Lateral (left of Centrale) – Closer to pole position, though in my opinion, views are limited compared to other sections.
  • Right Lateral (right of Centrale) – Extends down the pit lane, with some seats near the podium. Best option if Centrale is sold out or out of budget.
This area is all about the race-day atmosphere rather than wheel-to-wheel battles, as there’s little overtaking here.

First Chicane – High-speed braking and overtakes

One of the most iconic first corners in F1, Monza’s Rettifilo chicane is a low-speed section that demands precision and control. After the long, high-speed main straight, drivers must slam on the brakes to make the tight right-left flick, making it a prime spot for overtaking attempts.
Grandstand options:
  • Alta Velocità (inside the circuit) – Great for seeing cars approach at full speed.
  • Outer First Variant (outside the circuit) – Positioned just beyond the braking zone, with excellent views of the action as cars navigate the chicane, sometimes running side by side or misjudging their entry.

Mistakes here can be costly, and positions and even Grand Prix have been won and lost here, with drivers locking up, running wide while pushing the limits to find that precious extra tenth of a second.

A dramatic example came in 2021, when Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton collided at the chicane, leaving Verstappen’s Red Bull perched on top of Hamilton’s Mercedes in the gravel trap.

This is one of the best places to watch F1 cars on the limit, making it a fan-favorite section of Monza.

Ascari – Technical and fast

For some real kerb-riding action, you can’t do much better than the Ascari chicane at Monza. This section is all about rhythm and precision, with drivers attacking the left-right-left sequence at high speed. Watching them ride the kerbs and fight for position makes for great viewing.

You’ll be spoilt for choice at Ascari, with grandstands positioned on the inside of the track along the full length of the chicane, from entry to exit.

Grandstand options at Ascari:
  • Grandstand 12 – Positioned at the entry into the chicane, giving you a great view of cars turning in.
  • Grandstands 13 & 14 – Located within the chicane, offering an up-close look at drivers navigating the sequence.
  • Grandstand 15 – Placed at the exit, making it a prime spot to see who gets the best traction onto the back straight.

Parabolica – The final challenge

The last corner of the lap is one of Monza’s most famous turns. Parabolica is a sweeping right-hander where drivers need to carry speed onto the main straight without running wide onto the gravel.

Grandstand options:
  • Seats line the inside and outside of the circuit, offering a view of the approach to the corner.
  • A covered grandstand is located at the corner entry, providing some protection from the sun.
  •
Watching from here, you’ll see how different drivers handle this crucial final turn, balancing aggression and control.

Which grandstand is right for you?

✔ Want to experience the race-day buzz? Start/Finish Straight.
✔ Looking for big overtakes and close battles? First Chicane.
✔ Enjoy fast, technical sections? Ascari (Grandstands 12–15).
✔ Want to see drivers pushing to the edge? Parabolica.

Wherever you sit, Monza delivers a classic F1 experience with passionate fans, top-tier racing, and a track where every mistake counts.
