Estimated Reading Time: 5-6 minutes
Spa-Francorchamps is the longest circuit on the Formula 1 calendar. The track has at least three good overtaking zones: La Source at Turn 1, the long Kemmel Straight into Les Combes, and the Bus Stop chicane at the end of the lap.
Grandstands are split into Gold and Silver tiers, with General Admission also available.
The Gold grandstands are the top tier and are positioned at the best parts of the track. They’re also covered, which matters at Spa more than at most circuits because of the unpredictable weather. I’ve sat in the Eau Rouge and Gold 2 grandstands myself on my visits to the Belgian Grand Prix, and at this circuit, covered seating makes a real difference.
I’d point most fans towards the Gold grandstands first. The Silver grandstands are also in good locations and a few of them are now covered as well, so they’re worth considering. General Admission is the budget option but comes with trade-offs that are worth understanding before booking.
Where the Gold grandstands are
Gold 1 and Gold 9
Gold 1 and Gold 9 run along the start-finish straight, opposite the pit lane. From here you see the grid build-up, the start, the pit lane in action through the race, and the chequered flag. These are also the only grandstands with a view of the podium celebrations.
Gold 7 and Gold 8
Gold 7 and Gold 8 are at La Source, the tight right-hand hairpin at Turn 1. La Source is one of the main overtaking zones at the circuit, and the first lap usually produces drama as the field bunches up into the corner.
Gold 2
Gold 2 sits just after La Source, on the run down to Eau Rouge. From here you see the cars accelerate out of Turn 1 and onto the descent towards Eau Rouge.
Gold 3 and Gold 4
Gold 3 and Gold 4 are at the top of Eau Rouge and Raidillon, one of the most famous sections of any Formula 1 circuit. From the elevation, you see the cars commit to the uphill flick and onto the Kemmel Straight beyond.
Gold 6
Gold 6 looks over the Bus Stop chicane at the end of the lap. The Bus Stop is one of the heaviest braking zones on the track and another overtaking spot. A mistake here can cost a driver positions just before the line.
Silver grandstands
The Silver grandstands are positioned around the lap and put you close to the action without the Gold price tag. A few are now covered, which is a recent change worth checking when you book. Silver grandstands are a sensible middle option if Gold is out of budget.
A note on General Admission
Spa has a large amount of General Admission area, much of it set deep in the Ardennes forest around the circuit. Views from some sections are excellent, particularly along the back of the lap.
The trade-offs are worth understanding before booking. There’s no shelter, and Spa’s weather can turn quickly. Heavy downpours are common. You can also end up doing a lot of walking, since the General Admission areas extend well out into the forest.

Yes, if you're on a tight budget and prepared for the conditions. There's no shelter, the weather at Spa can turn quickly, and you can end up walking some distance to get to a good spot.
Unpredictable. Spa has its own micro-climate, and heavy downpours are common even in summer. Pack for all conditions.
Money-saving tip
Look at the Silver grandstands
Silver grandstands sit at good points around the lap and cost less than the Gold tier. A few are now covered, which is worth checking when you book given the weather at Spa.
