FAQ's

Most international fans fly into Faro Airport (FAO), the main airport for the Algarve and the closest practical airport to the circuit. Lisbon Airport (LIS) is the main long-haul hub and is worth checking if you cannot fly directly to Faro.

Portimão and Lagos are the best bases for the Portuguese Grand Prix because the race-weekend shuttle usually runs from both towns. Portimão, especially Praia da Rocha, has the widest hotel choice near the shuttle route.

Most fans use the free race-weekend shuttle from Portimão or Lagos. You can also drive, take a taxi or book a private transfer, but roads around the circuit get busy, especially on Sunday.

The Portuguese Grand Prix combines racing at one of Formula 1’s most dramatic modern circuits with a trip to the Algarve. Portimão is known for steep elevation changes, blind crests and fast, flowing corners.

Book flights once the race date is confirmed and your plans are fixed. Compare Faro and Lisbon, as Faro is closer to the Algarve while Lisbon usually offers more long-haul routes.

Book accommodation as early as possible once the race date is confirmed. Portimão and Lagos are popular Algarve resort towns, and a Grand Prix weekend adds extra demand.

Allow at least three full race days, from Friday to Sunday, to see every Formula 1 session and the support races. Add extra days if you want time to explore the Algarve before or after the Grand Prix.
