Getting there by air
Most international flights into Budapest land at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), about 25 minutes by road from central Budapest.
Direct flights to Budapest are common from most European hubs and from a number of regional airports. Both national carriers and low-cost airlines operate the routes.
There are also direct services from a number of cities outside Europe.
If your city doesn’t have a direct flight to Budapest, the most common connections are through Frankfurt, Vienna, Munich, or other major European hubs.
Flying in a few days before the Grand Prix, or staying on after, often brings airfares down. The savings can help cover the extra nights of accommodation.
Getting there by train
International rail services run from a number of European cities into Budapest, including direct trains from Vienna. Vienna is around two and a half hours from Budapest by train.
Getting there by coach
Long-distance coach services run from a number of European cities into Budapest. Coach travel is slower than the train but often the cheapest option.
From the airport to central Budapest
Budapest Airport is around 25 minutes from the city centre by road.
Taxi. Available from the official taxi rank at the airport. A reliable option for most travellers.
Pre-booked transfer. Worth considering if you’d rather skip the taxi queue or want a fixed price agreed in advance.
Bus and metro. Public buses run from the airport into the city, with onward connections via the metro.
Visa and entry requirements
Many visitors don’t need a visa to enter Hungary, but requirements depend on your nationality and personal circumstances.
For visa-exempt nationals, ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement when visiting Hungary and other European destinations.

Airfares to Budapest are often cheaper if you can travel a few days before the Grand Prix, or stay on a few days after. The savings on the flight can go a long way towards covering the extra nights’ accommodation, and Budapest is one of Europe’s most rewarding cities to spend time in.
