Spa-Francorchamps is in the Ardennes forest and isn’t directly served by any train station. Most fans reach the circuit by car, by shuttle bus from one of the nearby cities, or by a combination of train and local bus.
Driving
Driving gives you the most flexibility. Parking permits can usually be bought with your Grand Prix tickets for a small additional charge.
Most car parking at the circuit is in fields, with a single small entrance gate per area. This becomes important when you’re trying to leave after the race (see below).
Shuttle bus
Dedicated shuttle bus services run to the circuit from cities across Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. The main departure points are Liège in Belgium, Aachen in Germany, and Maastricht in the Netherlands. Tickets can usually be bought at the same time as your Grand Prix tickets.
Train and bus
If you’d rather use public transport, the route is to take a train to Verviers Central, then a local bus from Verviers to the circuit. Buses run regularly during race weekend. Aachen and Liège are both around 30 minutes by train from Verviers, which makes them practical bases for fans without a car.
Helicopter
Helicopter transfers are an option if you want to skip the road traffic entirely. They’re a premium choice. Worth knowing that Spa’s weather can change quickly, and helicopter transfers are more likely to be disrupted here than at most other circuits on the calendar.
After the race
Leaving Spa-Francorchamps is the part of the weekend most fans underestimate. A two- to three-hour wait to get out of the circuit isn’t unusual, and how long it takes depends largely on where you’re parked. Most car parking is in fields, where a single small entrance gate restricts how many vehicles can leave at once. This is what causes the long delays. Coach parking can be on the road or in a field, and fields are more common, so plan for a wait whether you’ve driven or come by coach.
Don’t book any onward travel for the evening after the race. Don’t plan to catch a flight, Eurostar, train, or ferry that same evening unless it’s late and you’re confident you’ll make it. The safer plan is to stay locally on Sunday night and travel onwards on Monday.
