Estimated Reading Time: 3-4 minutes
The Belgian Grand Prix takes place at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, in the Ardennes forest in eastern Belgium. The circuit is around 40 km from Liège and around 130 km from Brussels.
Spa is the longest circuit on the Formula 1 calendar, at just over 7 km. The lap mixes long straights, fast sweeping corners, and significant elevation changes. The most famous section is Eau Rouge and Raidillon, a left-right uphill flick taken close to flat-out.
Spa is known for its micro-climate. Weather at the circuit can change quickly, and one part of the track can be dry while another is wet. Pack for both.
The Formula 1 sessions run alongside support races including Formula 2, Formula 3, and the Porsche Supercup. The full schedule is published on F1.com about four weeks before the race.
How often does the Belgian Grand Prix run?
Spa-Francorchamps has been part of the Formula 1 calendar for decades, but Belgium now runs on a rotation arrangement and does not appear every year. Rotation arrangements can change, so check the current year’s calendar on F1.com before booking.
How many days should you spend at the Belgian Grand Prix?
Plan for three full days, Friday to Sunday. That covers every Formula 1 session and the full programme of support racing, including Formula 2, Formula 3, and the Porsche Supercup.
Belgian Grand Prix weekend schedule at a glance
Formula 1 runs two practice sessions on Friday. The support series, Formula 2, Formula 3, and the Porsche Supercup, hold their qualifying sessions.
Saturday is the busiest day on track. It begins with the Formula 3 Sprint Race, then moves through Porsche Supercup qualifying, the third Formula 1 practice session, further support race sessions, and closes with Formula 1 qualifying.
The support series run their feature races on Sunday. The drivers’ parade takes place before the main event. The Belgian Grand Prix closes out the weekend.
Each year, a handful of Grands Prix follow a sprint format. On a sprint weekend, Friday includes practice and sprint qualifying. Saturday includes the sprint race and Grand Prix qualifying. Sunday is still the Grand Prix. Sprint weekends rotate around the calendar each season, so check the current year’s schedule on F1.com.
