What to Expect in This Guide
In this guide I’ll help you choose the best place to stay during your trip to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
• Where do most fans stay for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? • Are there hotels within walking distance of Yas Marina Circuit? • What are the best areas to stay if you're on a budget? • How far is downtown Abu Dhabi from the circuit? • Can you stay in Dubai and travel to the race? • How can you save money on accommodation during race weekend? Estimated Reading Time: 5–6 minutes If you’re planning to attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, one of the first things to decide is where to stay. The circuit is located on Yas Island, and that’s where I usually start when planning trips for fans. It’s the most convenient option and keeps you close to the action all weekend.
Yas Island has a number of hotels within walking distance of the circuit. The W Abu Dhabi is the most recognisable-it sits directly over the track and has become one of Formula 1’s landmark buildings. It’s a bold, glass-covered structure, and while the location is unique, it can be noisy at night. Just across the road is Yas Plaza, with several 3- and 4-star hotels including Yas Plaza Marina», Yas Plaza Mangroves», Yas Plaza Circuit», Yas Plaza Bay», and Staybridge Suites». If you stay at any of these hotels, you'll only be a short walk from your grandstand. For example, it's only about a 10-minute walk from Yas Plaza over to the West Grandstand and around a 20 - 30-minute walk to the Main, Marina South and North Grandstands. During race weekend, prices tend to be high. You're paying for the convenience, but you gain the advantage of not needing a taxi or shuttle. The Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island» is located just a little further away, still within walking distance of the circuit. If you're looking for more flexibility on price, consider staying slightly further out. The area around the Grand Mosque and Abu Dhabi Gate is about 15 to 20 minutes by car from the circuit and has more options across the range. Hotels include the Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi», Millennium Al Rawdah», Shangri-La Qaryat Al Ber»i, Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal», and Fairmont Bab Al Bahr», as well as mid-range options such as Pearl Rotana Capital Centre», Aloft Abu Dhabi», Novotel Abu Dhabi Al Bustan», Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi by IHG», and Capital Centre Arjaan by Rotana». Downtown Abu Dhabi» has the biggest overall selection of hotels. You’ll find everything from luxury properties like the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental» to chain hotels like Rotana and Mercure, down to more budget-conscious picks like Centro Al Manhal and Grand Millennium Al Wahda». The trade-off is a longer commute, around 30 to 40 minutes by taxi each way. But if you’d like to see more of the city during your trip, it can be a good option. Some fans also stay in Dubai» and travel in for the race. The drive from Dubai to Yas Island takes between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on traffic. It’s manageable, especially if you’re only attending on race day, but can feel long if you’re going back and forth each day. In Abu Dhabi, hotels typically impose a tourism fee. These charges apply to hotels, serviced apartments, and holiday homes and are usually paid directly at the property. You can't avoid them, but just keep them in mind when you're booking your accommodation. Very few circuits have so many hotel rooms this close to the track. That’s what makes Abu Dhabi one of the more straightforward Grand Prix weekends to plan. Frequently Asked Questions

Book early and take advantage of the lead time– Aim to book 12 months in advance. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the last race of the season, so you’ll usually have around 18 months from the calendar announcement to secure a good deal. Many fans don’t book this far ahead, giving you a window to find lower prices before demand increases. Be flexible on location – Look at areas like the Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi Gate, or downtown Abu Dhabi. Rates are usually much lower than on Yas Island during race weekend. Share accommodation – If possible, share a twin room instead of booking two separate rooms to avoid sole occupancy charges. Play around with your travel dates – Sometimes, when I'm booking hotels for F1 fans, I notice that you can get an extra night before or after the Grand Prix weekend for little or no extra money. It's not always the case, but it’s worth having a quick look. The Best Booking Resources for F1 TripsThis is the fun part for some and the stressful part for others.
