Getting there by air
Faro Airport (FAO) is the main gateway to the Algarve. It’s around 85 km from the circuit, roughly an hour by road, and has good short-haul connections across the UK and Europe. For most fans, this is the airport to aim for.
Lisbon Airport (LIS) is the main long-haul hub. It’s around 280 km from the Algarve, a drive of about three hours. If there’s no direct route to Faro from where you’re flying, connecting through Lisbon or another European city is the usual approach.
From the airport to the coast
From Faro, a private transfer or taxi is the quickest way to your accommodation, around an hour to the main resort towns.
The VAMUS bus runs from Faro to Portimão. Fares are at the lower end, but the journey takes longer and involves a change.
Getting there by train
From Lisbon, a train heads south to the Algarve with a change at Tunes.
Visa and entry requirements
Many visitors don’t need a visa, but requirements depend on your nationality. For visa-exempt nationals, ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement when visiting Portugal and other European destinations. Check the official guidance before booking.

Tickets
Grand Prix Tickets is the agency I’ve trusted for years. They’ve always been reliable, easy to deal with, and quick to help if something comes up.
Hotels
ZenHotels is one of my go-to sites for hotel bookings. It pulls prices from many smaller sites you might not know about, which makes it good for finding deals. I also check Expedia and Booking.com when I want more options.
Excursions
Viator is full of walking tours, attraction tickets, and local experiences. It’s especially handy if you’re heading to a new Grand Prix city. It’s a good place to find extras to add to your trip.
Money-saving tip
Book your return transfer in advance.
Book your return transfer at the same time as your outbound one, since arranging transport back to the airport on the day usually costs more.
