Where you stay shapes how you reach the circuit, so it’s worth starting with transport. On race weekend, a free shuttle bus runs to the circuit from two towns: Portimão and Lagos. Basing yourself in either gives you the most straightforward route in and out each day.
Portimão and Praia da Rocha
Portimão » is the larger of the two shuttle towns. Praia da Rocha, its main beach district, has the bulk of the hotels and apartments, along with restaurants and a long beach. The shuttle runs from here on race weekend.
Hotels in Portimão:
• Hotel Jupiter »
• RR Hotel da Rocha »
• Rochavau Hotel »
• Hotel Algarve Casino »
• Bela Vista Hotel & Spa – Relais & Chateaux »
• Villa Mariazinha Charming Hotel »
• NH Marina Portimão Resort »
Lagos
Lagos » is a smaller, older town to the west, with a walkable centre, a marina and beaches nearby. It’s the other shuttle departure point.
Also worth considering
The wider central Algarve », roughly between Lagos » and Faro », is lined with guesthouses, hotels, apartments, villas and campsites, with something to suit any budget. All of it is within a comfortable drive of the circuit, so staying outside the two shuttle towns is a question of convenience, not necessity.
Alvor » is a smaller resort village between Portimão » and Lagos ». To the east, Carvoeiro » and Armação de Pêra » are quieter coastal options, with Lagoa » just inland of them. Albufeira » is a larger resort further east with more nightlife, about a 40-minute drive from the circuit. Sagres », at the south-western tip, is quieter and more remote. Staying outside Portimão » or Lagos » means you’ll drive or arrange your own transport to the circuit rather than use the shuttle.
Camping and self-catering
Camping isn’t allowed at the circuit. Campsites in the area, such as Camping Alvor », take tents and campervans. Self-catering apartments and villas are widely available across the Algarve, which can suit groups.

Hotels
ZenHotels is one of my go-to sites for hotel bookings. It pulls prices from many smaller sites you might not know about, which makes it good for finding deals. I also check Expedia and Booking.com when I want more options.
Excursions
Viator is full of walking tours, attraction tickets, and local experiences. It’s especially handy if you’re heading to a new Grand Prix city. It’s a good place to find extras to add to your trip.
Money-saving tip
The Algarve » has a large supply of holiday apartments and villas, often better value for a group than separate hotel rooms, especially over a longer stay. Staying in or near Portimão » or Lagos » also keeps you close to the race-weekend shuttle.
FAQ's
Portimão and Lagos are the best bases because the race-weekend shuttle usually runs from both towns.
Praia da Rocha is Portimão’s main beach district, with the widest choice of hotels, apartments and restaurants.
Book as early as possible. The Algarve is already busy during the holiday season, and a Grand Prix weekend adds extra demand.
