Estimated Reading Time: 4-5 minutes
Race-weekend transport to Silverstone is one of the genuine challenges of attending the British Grand Prix. The roads around the circuit are narrow and rural, and the volume of traffic on race weekend means delays are normal. Plan extra time on every leg.
Park and Ride
Official park-and-ride services operate from several locations around the circuit during race weekend, including Northampton, Milton Keynes, and Bicester. Park-and-ride is generally the most reliable way to reach the circuit if you’re driving in from elsewhere.
Train and shuttle
The nearest mainline station is Milton Keynes Central, around 35 minutes by train from London Euston. From Milton Keynes, official shuttle buses operate to the circuit during race weekend. Other shuttle services have run from Birmingham and other towns in recent years.
Driving and parking
Driving directly to the circuit is possible but requires patience. Parking at Silverstone needs to be pre-booked, with parking close to the entry gates significantly more expensive than the outer car parks.
Race-weekend traffic on the surrounding roads is heavy throughout the weekend, peaking on Sunday morning and after the race. Allow well over an hour for the last few miles to the circuit on Sunday.
Walking
Once inside the circuit, walking distances between grandstands, fan zones, and gates can be substantial. Silverstone is a large venue and getting between sectors takes longer than at most other Grand Prix.

Hotels
ZenHotels is one of my go-to sites for hotel bookings. It pulls prices from many smaller sites you might not know about, which makes it good for finding deals. I also check Expedia and Booking.com when I want more options.
Excursions
Viator is full of walking tours, attraction tickets, and local experiences. It’s especially handy if you’re heading to a new Grand Prix city. It’s a good place to find extras to add to your trip.
Money-saving tip
Use the park-and-ride from Milton Keynes
Parking at the circuit needs to be pre-booked. Park-and-ride from Milton Keynes Central, or one of the other official park-and-ride locations, is usually the cheapest option. It also avoids the worst of the traffic on the final approach to the circuit.
FAQ's
For most fans, the easiest way to get to Silverstone is by official park-and-ride from Northampton, Milton Keynes or Bicester. If arriving by train, use the shuttle bus from Milton Keynes Central.
Yes. Parking is available at Silverstone, but it must be pre-booked. Car parks closer to the entry gates usually cost more than outer parking areas.
Only if you are staying at a campsite or hotel next to the circuit. Silverstone is too far from nearby towns for walking to be practical.
