Estimated Reading Time: 4-5 minutes
Silverstone sits in open Northamptonshire countryside, away from any major town. Hotel options close to the circuit are limited.
It isn’t impossible to get a room at one of the on-site hotels at the circuit itself, but availability is very limited and rates carry a premium. In recent years, the circuit has also offered other forms of on-site accommodation, including yurts, motorhome pitches, and Airstream trailers. Worth investigating if you want to stay at the venue itself without camping in a tent.
Most fans either stay in one of the nearby towns and drive in each day, or camp at the circuit.
Nearby towns
The nearest towns with workable hotel options for race weekend are:
Northampton » The closest larger town to Silverstone, around 25 km away. A wide range of hotels in the area at every price level.
Find accommodation in Northampton »
Milton Keynes » A larger town around 30 km from the circuit, on the London side. The widest range of hotels in the area, and the main train hub for race weekend. London Euston to Milton Keynes Central runs in around 35 minutes, which makes Milton Keynes a workable base for fans combining the race with time in London.

Daventry » A smaller market town around 20 km from the circuit. A more limited range of hotels but a shorter drive on race weekend.
Find accommodation in Daventry »
Stratford-upon-Avon » Around 45 km from the circuit, on the western side. A more characterful base, with the town itself a draw beyond the racing.

All of these require a car or a pre-booked transfer to reach the circuit each day. Race-weekend traffic on the surrounding roads is significant.
Camping at the circuit
Camping is a substantial part of the Silverstone experience and more popular here than at most other Grand Prix. The circuit is surrounded by official campsites, with options ranging from basic pitch-your-own-tent fields to glamping setups with full facilities. The campsites also cater for motorhomes and caravans, with dedicated pitches available.
Many campsites have live music, food stalls, and entertainment running through the weekend, and the social atmosphere across the campsites is one of the things that makes Silverstone distinctive.
Booking opens well in advance and the better campsites sell out quickly.
Staying in London
Silverstone is a difficult circuit to base your trip around if you’re flying in from overseas. The lack of a clear hotel cluster nearby, combined with race-weekend road traffic, makes the practical logistics harder than at most Grand Prix.
One workable option for international fans is to base yourself in central London and travel up to the circuit on race day only. London Euston to Milton Keynes Central runs in around 35 minutes, with a shuttle bus or transfer from Milton Keynes to the circuit.
This works best if you’re attending Sunday only and want to combine the race with a London weekend. It does mean missing Friday and Saturday on track, so it’s a trade-off, but for fans whose priority is the city and the race day itself, it’s a genuine option.

Book early
Hotel availability around Silverstone is genuinely limited for race weekend, and prices rise sharply as the date approaches. Booking as soon as the calendar is confirmed gives you the most choice and the best rates. The same applies to the better camping options.
